$7.2 MILLION INVESTMENT FOR DOL’S PERM MODERNIZATION
by Rabindra Singh
On August 3, 2022 Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) announced investment in the Department of Labor (DOL) that will modernize services, improve customer experience, and strengthen cybersecurity.
As a background, TMF is working to transform the way the government uses technology to deliver for the American public in an equitable, secure, and user-centric way. TMF is overseen by the Technology Modernization Board (TMB). TMB’s role is to evaluate project proposals submitted for funding in accordance with the Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act.
The $7.2 million TMF investment in the DOL will help modernize how employers access permanent labor certification services using the program electronic review management (PERM) system, and will create a more seamless visa processing experience.
This investment will improve DOL’s permanent labor certification services by integrating the PERM system into the Foreign Labor Application Gateway (FLAG). As many recall, in 2019 FLAG replaced the legacy iCERT System with a modern case management solution for Prevailing Wage, H-2B, H-2A and the H-1B/H-1B/E-3 visa programs.
TMF’s investment will make it easier, faster, and cheaper for employers to access permanent labor certification services and create a more seamless immigrant visa processing experience.
